Gores Brook

De-culverting Gores Brook

In early 2023, I was chosen as the lead designer/ecologist to create a concept design plan for the partial de-culverting of Gores Brook in an East London urban park. I worked closely with geomorphologists and hydrologists to design an appropriate waterway system that improved water quality from run-off pollutants and excess nutrients and allowed for various human interactions with the Brook to connect city dwellers more to nature.

Final Design

The urban ‘green’ space we were working with had a few existing trees and was surrounded by residential homes and primary schools. The main influence on the landscape’s design was restoring the river system. Natural play areas for children and outdoor teaching spaces, as well as educating visitors about the Brook and natural systems, dominated the park's design.
